generosityGiving and generosity flow from compassion and love.

There are many opportunities to grow spiritually and to make a difference in the world through giving.  Generosity can help the church community fulfill its purpose to encourage people as they deepen a connection with God.  Often we join together as a church community to meet real life needs that would be difficult to do alone as individuals.  In addition, we fully realize and affirm it when people open their hearts to the nudging of the Spirit to be charitable to individuals and a plethora of other organizations working to transform and enhance life.  God’s work goes beyond any single faith community, and we celebrate heartfelt giving as acts of love everywhere they occur.  All represent opportunities to live out the teachings of Jesus.  Sharing finances is only one aspect of giving.  Imagine other ways you can contribute to the common good beyond money as equally valuable forms of a generous life.

Here at Brookville Evangelical UMC, we appreciate the wisdom of the Apostle Paul.

“The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”  2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Here is the good news.  When you come to Evangelical UMC, you will never be required or harassed to give.  The church is not a club with dues, it is a community of love and support where opportunities to contribute are always available as you feel led to give and participate.  Giving is part of a Spiritual life and helps each of us to trust more fully in the compassion of God, while we participate with God in creating a world that reflects this all-embracing love.
